Indian Turnaround- Nuclear Deal Approved

Turnarounds are always admirable. It not only sets fire to the imaginations, but also set a benchmark for others to follow. The basic principle for turnaround is relentless efforts, believing in oneself and the ability to make it at the end. We have seen quite a few turnarounds in the recent past. As for example- Amitabh Bachchan’s return with KBC, Saurav Ganguly’s comeback at Lords and again at South Africa, Coming back of Indian Railways into black from red etc…

However, one turn around that is really amazing and much more mammoth is Indians emergence as a Super Power in reckoning from the brink of isolation. Just about 124 months back, with the Pokhran blast, India risked to be isolated from the rest of the world. But with the guts to challenge the world, almost seamless finance and foreign policies across two governments and unmatchable effort from the young resurgent talent pool, India announced arrival at world stage. With NSG announcing and accepting India as a responsible Nuclear state, we have done the unthinkable.

Credit goes to each and every Indian and the way they believed in their own capability. This newfound self confidence and high self esteem would see India surging past all other nations in next 124 months… We are at the mid way now. From Isolation to Acceptance. Next step is from Acceptance to Leading.
We are coming :)

not to be too happy too soon. I wonder whose achievement it really is - India or US? Manmohan or Vajpayee?
what will india gain out of it remains to be seen. fuel? technology?
international recognition? with pokhran blast and multiple nuclear reactors do we really need fuel, technology or international recognition? is nuclear energy the only answer to India's energy demands? what about solar, hydel and hydro energy? was it really the worth to stir domestic politics, waiting nervously at NSG's decision and now to wait for a US congress decision? what will India's face be if US congress rejects the deal? why is US congress deliberating it "after" Indian parliament and international community waiver? It is the same country which was at the forefront of imposing sanctions and doing everything possible to stop India from getting everything that the deal promises now. fuel and technology. conclusion - now that it does not matter, US has shown how it can bend the rules when it suits its purpose and lured India into singing its tune rather than being independent and thinking on its own, something that it did in Pokhran.

Correct Suresh...
there are many questions to be answered... many more if's and buts to be firmed up. my point was only on turn around, the country has shown as a whole... from sanctions to current state is a long journey taken quite quickly :)
I dont think US can afford to antagonize India anymore, Even if Obama comes to power...

according to me the turnaround happened in pokhran. with this deal, india has not shown anything; US has. the deal was initiated by US and but for US, India had no way to get a waiver. the real deal is permanent seat at the UNSC and its not going to come by anytime soon.

What you are saying is correct from a bigger perspective... Yes, Pokhran was a Huge moral Booster... And the fact that US could not continue with its sanctions and had to come to this nuclear deal, displays the change in character of Indian as a community. Seat in UNSC would be the logical conclusion, which I see happening in next 4-5 years...

Its certainly a victory for both Manmohan Singh and G.Bush, as well as the credentials of India's non proliferation attitude. In 1993 Dr.Manmohan created history by liberalising up the economy, and that is visible by the progress we have made in the last 15 years. In 2008 he recreated another one ending apartheid of nuclear technology.
